In consultation with the UNC System, the Buncombe County Department of Health and Human Services, and our trusted healthcare partners at the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) and given the low number of cases on campus and our shared commitment to our UNC Asheville Community Expectations, UNC Asheville is planning to resume typical operations in the fall with many of our current COVID-19 safety precautions in place.
We’re thrilled to welcome incoming first-year and transfer students to UNC Asheville, and it all starts with EmBark Orientation! This year’s orientation has both in-person and virtual elements as well as programming for students and families. Virtual EmBark for both families and students took place throughout June 2021. We will host an in-person August EmBark program for students from August 12-15, 2021. Both June and August EmBark programs are mandatory for students.
Blue Ridge Experience, an optional pre-orientation program for students, is taking place Aug. 8-11. Find more details here.
- First-year students will check in and move in to their residence halls on Wednesday, August 11 prior to EmBark. There will be a morning assigned time (8:30 a.m.-noon) and an afternoon assigned time (1-4:30 p.m.). Assigned times for move-in will be communicated to students later in July after room selection.
- Continuing students will move in on Saturday, August 14 or Sunday, August 15. Either day will be up to the student’s choosing.
- Guests for move-in will be limited to 2 guests per student.
- All students and guests will provide negative COVID-19 test results from a test taken within 4 days of move-in or they can be exempt from testing by providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination. They must show a negative test result or proof of vaccination at the check-in station prior to receiving their room key or entering the residence hall.
